While Ukrainian forces have replaced much of their traditional artillery with strike drones, Russia relies heavily on its large, camouflaged artillery systems, which are difficult to locate and destroy directly. Instead, Ukraine's focus on bombing resupply trucks—often traveling along predictable routes—has proven to be an effective method of hampering Russian firepower.
This tactic leverages Ukraine’s ability to patrol roads with precision drones that pursue and strike ammunition vehicles, which are less maneuverable and less protected than other artillery units. As Russia expends an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 artillery rounds daily, each destroyed supply truck can significantly reduce the Russian artillery’s operational capacity. Consequently, Russian forces are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain sustained artillery operations, especially as Ukraine extends its kill zones by monitoring routes and interdicting resupply efforts deeper within Russian-controlled territory.
This evolving scenario underscores Ukraine’s resource-efficient approach, which maximizes weapon effectiveness while conserving limited resources. Although Russia may adapt by deploying more strike and bomber drones, Ukraine’s current focus on disrupting ammunition supply chains offers an immediate tactical advantage, constraining Russian offensive capabilities and reshaping the battlefield dynamics.
